Bigstone Cree Nation is comprised of three communities: Calling Lake, Chipewyan Lake, and Wabasca. Bigstone was signed into the “Treaty 8” agreement in 1899 and was provided with funds along with reserve lands to govern for the growth of its membership. Today, the main industry is Oil&Gas, with approximately 200 band members employed in the trades. Diversification is needed in order to help avoid some of the issues involved with the cyclical nature of commodities. Manufacturing and transportation are seen as the two industries that will provide opportunity for the Nation in the future.
